Visual Arts

The art program at HCA challenged me as an artist. My teacher encouraged me both personally and creatively, which taught me many lessons to apply to both my art and in life.

Creativity is a gift from God

Creativity that brings glory to God also develops our children into lifelong learners. We are blessed to have a full Arts program offering creative outlets to hundreds of children, while providing entertainment and enjoyment to many more.  Through our visual art classes, students in the younger grades get exposure to artists and cultures while learning elements of design. Students in middle and upper school learn design and fine-tuning of skills. Seniors have the opportunity to graduate with portfolio quality work and are able to apply to excellent art and design programs of their choice.

Lower School Art  (Grades K-4)

Academic art for grades 1-5 meets once a week. Students learn about different artists and cultures and will use the art elements they learn about to create their own artwork. In the classroom, students will experiment with a variety of mediums including pencil, oil pastels, watercolor paints, tempera paints and clay.  They see God as Master Creator of everything and the Giver of all good things, including our creativity and talents.

Middle School Art  (Grades 5-8)

In grade 6, students participate in art every day for one semester and study art history and art production, using a variety of art mediums. In grades 7 and 8, students may choose to take 2D art which explores design elements in drawing and painting or 3D art where students work with the element of form in the medium of clay.

Upper School Art  (Grades 9-12)

In upper school, students are able to take classes in our digital art lab completely outfitted with the same technology used in the industry. Students can choose form a variety of electives that will increase their skill and knowledge. In addition (after completing the required prerequisites) students are eligible to be selected (as juniors and seniors) to take an Independent Study course. These Independent Study courses are offered to students that wish to develop their skills and work towards creating portfolios for scholarships to college art or design programs.

ASCI Art Festival

The ACSI Art Festival encourages art education and promotes artistic creativity and expression. Students are able to glorify Jesus Christ through the use of artistic talent as given by him. Top-rated, original projects from all grades are entered at the art festival and judged.  The festival is a highly anticipated event with artwork from many schools in our region.
